Congratulations to our newest Dog Scout!  Please give a high paw to Cindi and Farren Stone's Reggie! 

What exactly is a Dog Scout, you ask? The best source for information is the nationally run site www.dogscouts.org. There, you'll be able to find out everything about the program. The Mission Statement in a nutshell is, "It is the purpose of Dog Scouts of America to promote humane education, thereby enhancing the human/animal bond (people and dogs), encouraging responsible pet ownership, and preventing cruelty to animals."

Each member MUST uphold the Dog Scout Laws:

1. A Dog Scout must be friendly with people and other dogs. Owners: always be courteous when you are with your dog in public--set a good example as a responsible owner and a well-trained dog.

2. A Dog Scout must be well mannered, so that he will be accepted in public places. Owners must be able to make their dogs behave well with basic obedience.

3. A Dog Scout must not be allowed to eliminate in an unseemly manner. Owners refrain from letting your dog urinate on buildings, statues or other people’s things, and fecal matter must be picked up (owners should always carry plastic bags and clean-up materials).

4. A Dog Scout must obey leash laws and other rules when accompanying owner to a park or other place where dogs are allowed. Owners: do not let your dog be a nuisance. You must keep your dog under control at all times.

5. A Dog Scout should be helpful whenever he or she can be. Owners can utilize obedience skills to allow the dog to help with certain tasks and become more utilitarian. Strive to have your dog learn all that he or she can, to become a more productive member of society.

6. A Dog Scout must not be allowed to harass wildlife (see #2)

7. A Dog Scout must never be tied up and left unattended. Owners: never leave your dog in a closed vehicle unattended for any length of time in extreme weather conditions.

8. Always show kindness and caring toward your dog, so that others can observe the joys of dog ownership and appreciate the bond between an owner and a well-behaved dog.

9. Remember the Dog Scout Motto: “Let us learn all that we can, so that we may become more helpful.”

10. Remember the Dog Owner’s Motto: “Our dogs’ lives are much shorter than our own--let’s help them enjoy their time with us as much as we can.”
